Professor AUGUSTUS HOPKINS STRONG, D. D., LL. D., says:

That there is no allusion to a probation after this life, is clear from Luke 16:19–31—the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. Here penalty is inflicted for the sins done “in thy lifetime” (v. 25); this penalty is unchangeable—“there is a great gulf fixed” (v. 26); the rich man asks favors for his brethren who still live on the earth, but none for himself (v. 27, 28).- Strong, A.

As you know, we’re doing a little series on studying the Bible, how to get the most out of God’s Word. And I’m happy to say to you that in August a book will be released entitled How to Get the Most Out of God’s Word which will have some of what I’m saying to you and a whole lot more. It will be a sort of a trade sized paperback book, I’m really excited about it because obviously I have such a passion for the Word of God. And through the years I have Read the rest...

The four English translations used most widely by evangelical Christians are the King James Version (KJV), The New King James Version (NKJV), the New International Version (NIV), and the New American Standard Bible (NASB).

The KJV is the oldest of the four and continues to be the favorite of many. It is known as the Authorized Version of 1611 because King James I approved the project to create an authoritative English Bible. Although it contains many obsolete words (some of which have Read the rest...

One of the foundational qualities of the Bible is its clarity (sometimes called perspicuity). That means Scripture’s main teachings are plain enough to be understood without the need of special expertise or church-sanctioned interpretations.

The Bible frequently speaks about its own clarity. Psalm 119:130 says, “The unfolding of Thy words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.” The average person who humbly reads the Bible can say, “I have more insight than all my Read the rest...

The Charismatic Movement, even many in the conservative/fundamental ranks are slowly changing their view of the Scriptures. These individuals would defend to the death their belief in the inerrancy and infallibility of the Word, but have softened, as we will see, in the area of sufficiency. When we speak of the sufficiency of the Bible, we mean that it alone is adequate to train us in godliness. Only the Word reveals God’s truth for living. On the negative side, this naturally implies Read the rest...

God’s Word is inspired.

Second Timothy 3:16 speaks of the inspiration of Scripture. “Inspired” is the translation of a Greek word that literally means “God-breathed.” Every word of Scripture is from the mouth of God!

Properly understood, the doctrine of inerrancy—the teaching that the Bible contains no errors—applies only to the original copies of the biblical documents. The original writings came directly from God through human authors.

The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew and Aramaic (cf. Genesis 31:46; Ezra 4:8-6:18; 7:12-26; Jeremiah 10:11; Daniel 2:4-7:28), and the New Testament was penned in Greek.
